With the Tour Down Under 2014 rapidly approaching, the staff at Adelaide Orthopaedics and Trauma (AOTS) would like to wish all elite visiting and local tour professional cyclists and athletes, as well as those local, interstate and international cyclists who are intending to be involved in Tour Stage rides and/or general participation in the Tour Down Under events a safe ride!
Last year Dr Robert Fassina was the preferred orthopaedic (orthopedic) surgeon for the Tour Down Under cyclists, being referred professional cyclist Tim Duggan from team Saxo Tinkoff and Arnaud Courtelle fro team FDJ-Unvex, directly from the Tour Down Under doctor. Both of these cyclists were involved in high speed collisions and sustained significant upper and lower limb fractures requiring operative management.
Dr Robert Fassina has had considerable experience in the management of upper and lower limb trauma and is and integral part of the orthopaedic trauma management in South Australia, in both the private and public sectors. Together, with the team of surgeons at AOTS, a comprehensive service is offered including upper and lower limb fracture and dislocation management, sports hip, sports knee, sports shoulder, elbow and wrist injury management, as well as the management of complex pelvic trauma, which is not offered by any other orthopaedic group in South Australia.
